The Chairman, Kenny Abbott, writes the following:
By the time you read this note, the Friends of St Mary's Church will have carried out their coach trip and fund-raising quiz - thank you to all who supported those events. We shall also be fast approaching Christmas and all that it means to us as individuals. My experience is that the Christmas Eve carol service is one time during the year that the church building is filled to capacity. That church, in some form, has stood there for over 800 years. The Friends of St Mary's group exists for the preservation, restoration and upkeep of this magnificent building; to enable future generations to share the benefits of what is one of the most beautiful churches in Suffolk. At the end of October the Friends collection boxes, that supporters have in their homes during the year, were blessed and their contents counted. This year a sum in the region of £1,100 has been donated to our funds. The Friends Committee is extremely grateful and thanks all donors most sincerely for their generosity. If you would like to help us, by having a Friends box, becoming a member, or in any other way, do please get in touch. Our thanks again. Whoever you are, wherever you are - we are the Church together, throughout the year.
Membership is open to all for an annual subscription of £5, or lifetime membership is available for £50. Alternatively you can make a one-off donation as you wish.
At present the church is deperately in need of redecoration, the organ needs cleaning and general maintenance is always necessary. Your help with any contribution, large or small, would be appreciated.
To become a member, or to make a donation phone me on 01449 766630 or email the Secretary by clicking here.
