The Friends raise money for the repair, restoration and maintenance of the beautiful Grade I listed church.
To become a Friend, you undertake to give at least £10 each year. If you would like to help with this important work, you are welcome to have a collecting box. These are collected each October.
The Friends also organise a variety of fundraising events throughout the year.

At the recent AGM of the Friends of St Mary's in March 2019, Jean Martin was electetd as Chairman. The Friends' Committee presented a bouquet to Marjorie Rousseau, the outgoing chairman, to thank her for all her hard work and commitment over several years as chairman
.
The new committee is arranging several events. See the What's On page for more details.

FRIENDS OF ST MARY’S CHURCH
ANNUAL REPORT 2018/19

Our fund-raising activities began in 2018 by reminiscing on the visit of the Maasai Warriors when Geoff Clarke, our village recorder, showed a film of their performance in Church on 20th October 2017.  There was so much content in their presentation it was good to see it all again picking up on things we missed the first time round.  It also gave those who were unable to come to the event an opportunity to enjoy their visit.  The film is now part of the history of the village for future generations to enjoy.
We then had a very successful Coffee Morning and Baked Spud Bash - both well supported.  The Friends provided a Stall selling jams, pickles and chutney on Street Fayre Day in May when the Church and Armoury were open.
In June we welcomed the Edmund Octet who gave a most enjoyable Concert.  Father Philip gave Tours of the Church and Armoury throughout the year, the Friends providing refreshments.
Our Strawberry Cream Tea was much enjoyed held in the URC premises.  Our thanks to the URC for making this available to us in which to hold a number of events.  We supported the village School Fete by providing a Cake Stall.  A Quiz was held in November - a very happy evening for which we thank Ken Abbott and his assistants Liz and Shirley.  The Friends Boxes were collected and yielded a very acceptable source of income. The year ended with our Christmas Draw.  Thank you to all who bought tickets and donated prizes.
We are most grateful to Father Philip for his continued support as we are to all those who attend our events to enable us to keep our lovely Church, a Grade 1 listed building, in good repair.
